Dating the shark – Hirst scandal

Artist Damien Hirst has been hit by claims that some of his sculptures exhibited in galleries around the world were artificially aged and dated to decades before they were actually produced.

Lawyers for Hirst accepted that his works had on occasion ā€œbeen made to look older or distressedā€. But they said that any such steps were part of the ā€œartistic processā€.

A slight nod to a favourite childhood comic strip of mine ‘GUMS’.
